RIA Novosti: trade between Russia and the EU reached a maximum in eight years

Trade turnover between Russia and the European Union in 2022 rose to a maximum over the past eight years. About it reported RIA Novosti based on Eurostat data.
The agency estimates that exports of Russian goods to the EU in 2022 amounted to 203.4 billion euros, which is 0.2 billion less than in 2012, when the volume of goods supplied from Russia to the EU was 203.6 billion euros.
At the same time, the export of European goods fell by 38.1% after the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions, at the end of the year it amounted to 55.2 billion euros. It is specified that this is the minimum value since 2005.
In total, trade turnover increased by 2.3% over the year to 258.6 billion euros. This is the highest value since 2014. At the same time, the EU trade deficit with Russia exceeded a record 148.2 billion euros, which is twice as much as was recorded in 2021.
In mid-February, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) published a report showing that EU countries have dramatically increased exports to Russia’s neighbors following the imposition of anti-Russian sanctions. In particular, the export of EU countries in May-July 2022 increased by 84% to Kyrgyzstan, by 72% to Armenia, by 21% to Tajikistan, by 19% to Georgia and by 14% to Kazakhstan, while while to Russia and Belarus, on the contrary, decreased – by 56% and 39%, respectively.
