RIA Novosti: Kharitonov will become a candidate of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation in the presidential elections of the Russian Federation

The candidacy of Nikolai Kharitonov from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation for the upcoming presidential elections in Russia in March 2024 was supported by the presidium of the Central Committee of the party. A RIA Novosti source told about this on Wednesday, December 20.

Kharitonov has been a member of the State Duma since 1993; in the lower house of parliament of the current convocation, he heads the committee for the development of the Far East and the Arctic.

On December 15, the head of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation faction in the Moscow City Duma, Nikolai Zubrilin, said that the Moscow branch of the party recommends nominating Chairman of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Central Committee Gennady Zyuganov and State Duma deputy Sergei Levchenko as candidates for the presidential elections. This decision was made, according to Zubrilin, through rating voting and general discussion.

Delegates to the LDPR congress supported the nomination of a candidate for the presidential election from the party its head Leonid Slutsky. The decision to nominate Slutsky as a candidate for the post of head of state was made by secret ballot.

As of December 20, the Central Election Commission received applications from 16 candidates to participate in the presidential elections. The current head of state, Vladimir Putin, will run as a self-nominated candidate; the Central Election Commission allowed him to open an electoral account and begin collecting signatures.
