“Pantsir-SM” will strengthen the Russian air defense system in the zone of military operation, the source said “RIA News”. According to him, anti-aircraft missile and gun systems in the latest modification will arrive “in the near future.”
As the source of the agency expects, the Pantsir-SM will hit drones and rockets at a “significantly greater range”, including shells of the American MLRS HIMARS. In the future, it is planned to test a complex equipped with mini-rockets to destroy drones and unguided projectiles of the Grad MLRS.
Pantsir-SM is equipped with a new target detection radar and a new target tracking and missile guidance radar. The complex is capable of detecting small targets at a distance of up to 75 km. When using new anti-aircraft guided missiles with hypersonic speed, the target interception range is 40 km – twice as much as the previous version. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said in the summer of 2022 that the maximum range for the destruction of drones was increased by 30%. The flight altitude is 18 km. The complex is produced on a wheelbase or on a tracked chassis.
