State tests of new wheeled combat vehicles on the Boomerang platform have started in Russia, a source said. “RIA News”. They are expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
We are talking about testing K-16 armored personnel carriers and K-17 infantry fighting vehicles. Several units of military equipment are involved. “According to the results of state tests, the Boomerang combat vehicles should receive the letter O1, which allows them to begin mass production,” said the source of the Russian state agency. According to him, various shooting, running and other tests will be held.
“Boomerang”, according to the idea of the developers, allows you to create vehicles for various purposes: from infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers to armored medical vehicles and radiation, chemical and biological protection vehicles. The platform has multilayer armor and enhanced mine protection. The engine is located in front of the transport, which allows you to land and pick up troops from the stern.
The infantry fighting vehicle K-17 has a hull length of 8.8 meters, a combat weight of more than 28 tons, a maximum speed on the highway of about 100 km / h, a cruising range of 800 km. The main armament is the Boomerang-BM remote-controlled module with a 30-millimeter automatic cannon and launchers of the Kornet anti-tank missile system.
