Russian special forces who are participating in a special operation in Ukraine received new Chukavin sniper rifles. About it informs RIA Novosti, citing a source in the military-industrial complex.
“The forces of the special operation were supplied with a batch of Chukavin sniper rifles for testing in combat conditions of the special military operation being carried out in Ukraine,” the source said.
He noted that the first reviews of the weapon were positive. It is specified that the transferred rifles are designed for 7.62 by 54 mm cartridges. At the same time, 7.62 x 51 mm NATO cartridges are also suitable for the rifle.
The Kalashnikov Concern JSC (part of Rostec) is responsible for the development of Chukavin sniper rifles. A new generation of weapons is capable of hitting single targets at a distance of up to a kilometer from the first shot. It is expected that the Chukavin rifle will replace the Dragunov sniper rifle, which has been used by the military for almost 60 years – since 1963.
In August, the president of Kalashnikov, Alan Lushnikov, declaredthat the military will receive a new Chukavin sniper rifle this year. He also said that by the end of 2022, the PPK-20 submachine gun, which was presented at the Army-2021 forum, would be delivered to the troops.
