Russian troops stormed the strategically important stronghold of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Maryinka in the DPR. About it informs RIA Novosti, citing a volunteer with the call sign Shakhtar.
“The units of the 5th brigade stormed the Krasnogorovsky mine ventilation shaft. This strong point is located on the outskirts of Krasnogorovka,” the soldier said.
According to him, the Russian military entrenched “at a strategically important point.” The interlocutor of the agency also showed footage of the artillery preparation that preceded the assault. They depict massive strikes on the territory near the shaft of the ventilation shaft.
Krasnogorovka is located about 8 km from Maryinka. Since the beginning of summer, the Ministry of Defense has been regularly reporting on the repulsion of attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the defeat of accumulations of enemy manpower and equipment in the area of these settlements. In particular, on August 9, the military department stated about the strike on the command and observation post of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the area of Krasnogorovka.
In early June, Acting Head of the DPR Denis Pushilin expressed confidence that the capture of Marinka after an additional transfer of Chechen units will not be delayed. Then he noted that, despite the liberation of more than half of the city, the Armed Forces of Ukraine still have “a fairly serious fortified area.” In addition, the enemy continues to transfer reserves to the city, he added.
Maryinka is located 30 km from Donetsk. This is one of the points from where the Armed Forces of Ukraine are shelling Donetsk. Pushilin noted that the capture of Maryinka would “minimize or reduce” shelling of the city.
The Russian special operation in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. During the hostilities, Russian troops took full control of the LPR, as well as most of the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. In the fall of 2022, the subjects became part of Russia. Martial law has been introduced in the regions since October 19.
