RIA Novosti: a prisoner from the “Kraken” called his unit “elite meat”

In an interview with RIA Novosti, a captured soldier from the Kraken unit, Andriy Prikhodko, described his unit as “elite meat” of the head of the main intelligence department of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Kirill Budanov. According to him, such an expression has become common among those who serve and fight in this unit.
“Kraken” (banned in the Russian Federation) is a nationalist unit, the formation and control of which is carried out by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine under the leadership of Major General Budanov. It consists of former fighters of the Azov Battalion (an organization banned in Russia as a terrorist organization), members of radical nationalist movements, football fans and officers of the Main Intelligence Directorate. The tasks of the Kraken are positioned as sabotage and reconnaissance.
Prikhodko also noted that the Kraken command pays great attention to self-promotion. All materials are transferred to Kyiv to create an appropriate media image. The captive man said that they film the information and transmit it to Kyiv, and also receive action cameras to record successful operations or training at the training ground. These materials are used to create the image of an “elite” special forces unit.
