Revenue from the export of Russian medical services reached $730 million in 2022

The volume of exports of medical services from Russian clinics grew to almost $730 million in 2022 – 30% above the plan and 92% above the result of 2021. About this informed “Medvestnik” with reference to the annual report of the Ministry of Health of Russia.

The number of foreigners who used medical services for the year amounted to 12 million people, follows from the report. For comparison: in 2021, the total number of citizens from other countries amounted to 7 million (an increase of 71%).

It is also noted that the results of exports over the past year were higher than in the pre-pandemic period. In 2019, the figure was $470 million, and the number of foreigners who used the services of Russian clinics then amounted to about 3 million people. Director of the Institute for Health Economics at the Higher School of Economics Larisa Popovich told the publication that reporting may include, among other things, citizens from regions annexed to Russia.

Insurance Company “Rosgosstrakh» in November 2022 reportedthat about 50% of Russians noted an increase in prices for medical services over the past year. Then, during the survey, the company said that the respondents noticed an increase in the price of such services by 5-10%, and more than a quarter noted a rise in price by 10-15%.

According to Olga Kuptsova, Deputy Director of the VHI Methodology and Underwriting Department at Rosgosstrakh, now the VHI policy “acquires special value” due to the fact that with its help “you can avoid unnecessary spending on medicine.”

“It is often more profitable to purchase a comprehensive voluntary health insurance program in order to contact various specialists and undergo all the necessary examinations than to pay several thousand rubles each time for a doctor’s appointment or tests,” Kuptsova noted then.
