The EU member states were unable to agree on a ban on the sale of tankers to Russia in the 12th package of anti-Russian sanctions being developed. Diplomatic sources in Brussels spoke about this on Monday, December 11.
According to Reuters interlocutors, the European Commission insisted on a ban on the sale of old tankers, as well as to companies from Russia and legal entities that could use their tankers to bypass the price ceiling for Russian oil.
However, Mediterranean countries with powerful maritime transport companies, who fear that this decision will undermine their competitiveness, sabotaged the EC initiative, which ultimately failed to be adopted.
Earlier, Hungarian Defense Minister Milos Vucevic said that the Serbian Progressive Party of President Aleksandar Vucic intends to maintain continuity in foreign policy and do not announce sanctions against Russia in case of victory in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
At the same time, Member of the Norwegian Parliament Gyri Melby turned to the head of the country’s Foreign Ministry, Eksent Bart Eide, to find out what actions Oslo is taking to prevent circumvention of sanctions against Russia from China.
