The command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces removed the speaker of the Ukrainian territorial defense forces, Sergeant Sarah Ashton-Cirillo, from her duties. This became known on Wednesday, September 20.
As Ukrainian media write, Ashton-Cirillo was punished for inappropriate statements. The corresponding statement emphasizes that “when conducting military operations against the aggressor, the Ukrainian Defense Forces strictly observe the norms of international humanitarian law.”
Pending the completion of the internal investigation, Sergeant Ashton-Cirillo has been suspended from her post, and based on its results, an appropriate decision will be made, the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine assured.
Earlier, Ashton-Cirillo threatened reprisals against “Kremlin propagandists,” promising that “all Russian military journalists will be caught—Ukraine is moving towards this goal.”
Chairman of the Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights under the President of the Russian Federation Valery Fadeev appealed to the Investigative Committee and the FSB in connection with the threats made by the Speaker of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
At the same time, the sergeant stated that she did not threaten to kill Russian journalists. According to Ashton-Cirillo, there is no list with the names of journalists: “This is all lies and propaganda of the Kremlin.”
