Representative of Kazakhstan takes office as CSTO Secretary General

The representative of Kazakhstan, Imangali Tasmagambetov, assumed the post of Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) on January 1.
The decision on this was made by the heads of state of the Organization as part of the planned rotation.
Tasmagambetov, 65, who will hold the position for three years, has served in Kazakhstan as prime minister, head of the presidential administration, akim of Almaty and the Kazakh capital, and defense minister.
Until December 2019, he served as the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation.
