“On the Day of the Strategic Missile Forces, a real gift for a professional holiday will be the intercession of another regiment equipped with the Avangard missile system in the Yasnensky missile formation,” he said in an interview with the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper published by the Ministry of Defense (.pdf).
Avangard is equipped with a guided hypersonic warhead, which is launched towards the target with the help of an intercontinental ballistic missile. Able to fly in dense layers of the atmosphere at speeds up to Mach 27 (about 32 thousand km / h). Mr. Karakaev spokethat by the end of 2022, 86% of the missile forces will be transferred to modern complexes, including Avangard.
