On April 27, the leaders of Russia and Turkey took part in the ceremony of delivering the first batch of nuclear fuel to the site of power unit No. 1 of the Akkuyu NPP in Turkey, which is being built by Rosatom. From the moment the fuel is delivered, the station officially becomes the first nuclear power facility in the history of the country, its physical launch is planned for the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey in October.
The fuel delivery ceremony took place shortly before Turkey’s general parliamentary and presidential elections scheduled for May 14. Erdogan had previously postponed participation in events for two days in a row after falling ill on Turkish Kanal7 and Ulker on April 25. The President, on the advice of doctors, canceled all public activities for an indefinite period. Information appeared on social networks that the Turkish leader’s heart problems worsened and he was allegedly hospitalized. The head of the communications department of the presidential administration, Fahrettin Altun, denied this information. “We categorically reject such unfounded statements regarding the health of President Erdogan,” he wrote on his Twitter page on the evening of April 26. He confirmed that the head of state would take part in the opening ceremony of Akkuyu.
