The American corporation Apple intends to abandon the lease of an office in the business center “Romanov Dvor” in the center of Moscow near the Kremlin, informed RBC with reference to sources in the commercial real estate market.

The company leased 3500 sq. m in this business center five years ago, then increasing the area to 4700 sq. m, however, after the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the premises were not used by the company in full. To terminate the lease, which is valid until January 2025, Apple allegedly decided after the announcement of partial mobilization in Russia, the company is now negotiating on this issue.

The office rented by Apple belongs to the Dutch Alini Investments B.V., whose beneficiaries at the end of 2021 were Ruben Vardanyan and Sumbat Oganov, who renounced Russian citizenship. Difficulties may arise with the delivery of these premises, Yulia Bashmarina, head of the CORE.XP corporate client services department, noted, pointing out their high cost and the landlord’s unwillingness to divide them into smaller blocks.

As before wrote Vedomosti, Apple and Google transferred their employees from Russia to other countries by the end of the summer, in particular, most of the employees from Apple’s small state in Russia moved to Kyrgyzstan – and active work on relocation began in the spring. Apple did not officially announce its withdrawal from the Russian market, however, on March 2, it restricted the import of products, sales and operation of Apple Pay in Russia. A similar decision to suspend supplies was made by the South Korean companies LG and Samsung and a number of other corporations.

Due to supply restrictions and the departure of major brands in Russia, parallel imports were allowed, the corresponding law was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin in June. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has approved a list of goods for parallel imports that can be imported into the Russian Federation without the consent of the manufacturer or copyright holder. It also includes products from electronics manufacturers (Apple, Samsung, Asus, Intel, Sony, etc.).
