Rada appoints new heads of SBU and Interior Ministry

The new heads of the SBU and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine are Vasily Malyuk and Igor Klymenko, who previously temporarily acted as heads of these departments. Both appointments were approved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, deputies Oleksiy Goncharenko and Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported in their social networks.

324 deputies voted for Maliuk, 321 for Klymenko.

Malyuk became acting SBU after the ex-chairman of the department Ivan Bakanov was removed from office President of the country Vladimir Zelensky against the backdrop of numerous facts of cooperation between his subordinates and Russia after the start of the special operation of the Russian Federation. Malyuk was his first deputy.

Klymenko, who previously held the position of head of the National Police, became the interim head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs after death his predecessor Denis Monastyrsky during a helicopter crash in Brovary on January 18. Several other people were on board with him, including First Deputy Minister Yevgeny Yenin and State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Yuri Lubkovich, all of whom also died. In total, 14 people, including 1 child, died as a result of the incident, 25 people were injured.

Earlier, the appointment of Maliuk and Klymenko was announced by the head of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction David Arakhamia. He also said that Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov would translated as Minister for Strategic Industries. Reznikov will be replaced in this post by Major General Kirill Budanov, who previously headed the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense, the deputy noted.
