Quran burning protests held in Sweden and Denmark

In Stockholm, an immigrant from Iraq, Salvan Momika, who organized similar actions earlier, burned a copy of the Koran in front of the building of the Swedish Parliament. In Copenhagen, anti-Muslim protesters burned a Koran outside the Saudi Arabian embassy.
According to the agency, these actions took place against the backdrop of statements by the authorities of both countries about their intention to legally restrict such actions in order to prevent the growth of tension with Muslim countries.
On June 28, the day of the celebration of Eid al-Adha, Momika held an action with the burning of the Koran on Medborjarplatsen Square in the center of Stockholm. This action was coordinated with the police. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson considered the permission for this action legal but inappropriate.
President Vladimir Putin, in turn, pointed out that in Russia, insulting religious feelings will always be a violation of the law. “This crime is disrespect and incitement of inter-regional, inter-confessional hatred. We will always adhere to these legislative rules,” he said.
In January, Danish politician Rasmus Paludan held a similar action near the Turkish embassy in Stockholm. After that, tensions arose in relations between the two countries, which influenced Sweden’s entry into NATO, which has not yet taken place. In July, Ankara nevertheless agreed to ratify the protocol on the admission of Stockholm to the military bloc. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the country’s parliament could consider Sweden’s application to join NATO in October.
