The BRICS summit (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) will be held in South Africa from 22 to 24 August. It will be held in person for the first time in three years. It will be attended by the leaders of four states.
Putin will take part in the summit via video link. This was announced on July 19 by the press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov, specifying that the participation of the Russian leader would be full. Directly at the summit, Moscow will be represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Earlier, the press service of the President of South Africa reported that Putin’s refusal to attend the summit in person was “by mutual agreement” of the parties.
On March 17, the Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Children’s Ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova. Peskov then stated that the decisions of the ICC have no legal force and are void.
