During the flight to the UAE, the plane of Russian President Vladimir Putin was accompanied by Su-35S fighters armed with missiles. Footage of the aircraft escort was published by the Ministry of Defense. The Kremlin said fighter jets accompanied the plane throughout the flight until landing.

The video provided by the military department shows the flight of the presidential Il-96, accompanied by four Su-35S – two on each side. Each fighter carried four air-to-air missiles on an external sling.

Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the fighters “carried standard weapons of various classes.” The Su-35S flight took off from an operational airfield in Russia and was piloted by first-class pilots, he said.

“For air support of the presidential aircraft, special flight permissions were obtained from the states over whose territory the flight was carried out. We are grateful to these states for their cooperation,” added Mr. Peskov, without specifying which countries he was talking about.

Mister Putin today, December 6, arrived in Abu Dhabi for negotiations with Emirati President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Mr. Putin at the beginning of the meeting named “unprecedentedly high” level of relations with the UAE. They plan to discuss the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the situation in Ukraine.
