Russian President Vladimir Putin is concerned about the drug situation in Afghanistan. He pointed out that acreage for the production of narcotic drugs is growing there.
“The turnover of drugs is growing and, unfortunately, the area under crops is growing. In my opinion, 80% of the opiates on the world market are of Afghan origin,” Putin said at a meeting with secretaries of the Security Council on Afghan issues.
Putin noted that “the situation is very complicated.”
Earlier, the fifth meeting of the Security Council secretaries on the Afghan problem took place in Moscow. It was attended by representatives including India, China, Iran, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
