Production of medicines for 2022 increased by 10%

Vladimir Putin took part in the launch of new pharmaceutical production facilities in three regions of the country. Kaliningrad will produce over-the-counter drugs for mass demand, St. Petersburg – anticancer drugs, and Saransk – pharmaceutical substances for a wide range of drugs from antibiotics to muscle relaxants. The opening of enterprises is an important step towards achieving medicinal sovereignty. In addition, such events are seen as support for the governors, which is especially important for Alexander Beglov.

If there were a competition in Russia for the most popular word heard in the corridors of power, it would undoubtedly be won by “sovereignty”. Just the day before, the Kremlin discussed financial, technological and personnel sovereignty. And on Thursday, the turn came to the sovereignty of the drug. Participants in the ceremony used this word at least a dozen times. Vladimir Putin said that it is important for Russia to increase the share of domestic drugs on the domestic market and strengthen its independence from suppliers from abroad. “Especially from those who sometimes create a lot of difficulties for us,” he said. According to the president, domestic medicines are successfully replacing imported analogues that are in demand. In general, the pharmaceutical industry demonstrates positive dynamics. As the head of the Ministry of Health Mikhail Murashko specified, the production of medicines for 2022 increased by 10%, and substances – by 7%. In the list of essential and essential medicines (ZHNVL), the share of Russian pharmaceuticals is 82%, and more than half of such drugs are produced through the full cycle. In 2023, this figure is expected to grow by another 10% due to the opening of new production facilities and lines.

The President was told that the plant in Kaliningrad specializes in the production of over-the-counter products and bioadditives, the formulas of which are also developed in Russia. “We are developing the principles of responsible self-treatment of patients,” said the female director. In the Republic of Mordovia, the production of pharmaceutical substances begins, which, according to the head of the enterprise, is now as important as space flights. “This is the strengthening of medicinal sovereignty. The lion’s share of raw materials was brought from abroad, and we are taking a step to change this situation,” he explained. St. Petersburg will also produce pharmaceutical substances plus anticancer drugs. The capacity of the plant, they reported to Putin, will make it possible to cover “most of the needs of the entire country.”

In addition to the heads of companies, governors were present at each site. The directors praised them, and the heads of the region, in turn, did not forget to forward the words of gratitude to Vladimir Putin. Alexander Beglov made a special effort, thanking the President both on his own behalf and on behalf of the residents of St. Petersburg. “With your support, the industry of St. Petersburg is developing. It becomes the biotech capital of Russia. Good luck to everyone in serving our Fatherland!” Beglov addressed all participants of the ceremony. The St. Petersburg governor himself also continues to need the president’s support: in the spring, they once again began to actively see him off. But, apparently, this is another false start. With outsiders, Vladimir Putin usually does not meet even virtually.

The head of state thanked everyone for the good work and promised that the state would continue to develop mechanisms to support the pharmaceutical industry. This year, for the first time, companies will be able to receive investment loans to create capacities for the synthesis of substances and the production of medicines in a full cycle. As Denis Manturov clarified, 12 projects worth 80 billion rubles have already been selected for financing, within which 150 substances will be received. “This is a step towards drug sovereignty,” he added.
