“I consider interference in the activities of the courts absolutely unacceptable, and I consider it inappropriate to question the decisions of the court. There are certain, legally designated rights to protect citizens. You can contact a higher authority. Mr. Yashin’s lawyers certainly know what they should do,” he said, speaking at a press conference after the summit of the EAEU countries.
In addition, Putin asked “who is Ilya Yashin” when it came to his sentence. When asked by a journalist whether the 8.5-year term under the article on fakes does not seem too harsh to the president, the head of state replied that “when it seems, it is necessary to be baptized.”

Initially, the state prosecution requested 9 years for him. In addition, Yashin is prohibited from administering Internet resources for 4 years.
He was detained in Moscow on July 12 and the next day the Basmanny Court of Moscow took him into custody. According to investigators, he spread false information about what happened in Bucha on the YouTube channel on April 7. On July 22, the Ministry of Justice entered Yashin into the register of individuals – foreign agents.
