Putin: there will be no militarization of the economy

President Vladimir Putin said that Russia will not militarize the economy and the country. He announced this at an expanded meeting of the collegium of the Ministry of Defense.

“We will not repeat the mistakes of the past, when in the interests of increasing defense capability, where necessary, and where it was and was not really necessary, we destroyed our economy. We will not engage in the militarization of the country and the militarization of the economy,”— declared the president. The achieved level of development and the structure of the economy do not require this, Mr. Putin explained.

“And to do something unnecessary – to the detriment of the country, to the detriment of our people and the economy, in social spheres, I want to emphasize this again – we do not intend and will not do this,” Vladimir Putin said.

Earlier, following the involvement of the state apparatus to meet the needs of the military operation, the authorities proposed to intensify the use of resources to fulfill the state defense order (SDO). A group of State Duma deputies proposed a new way to calculate the cost of military contracts through amendments to the laws “On the State Defense Order”, “On Insolvency (Bankruptcy)” and “On Mobilization Preparation”. Also, the management of companies that carry out state defense orders is offered to be given the opportunity to compete for personnel from other sectors of the economy.
