President Vladimir Putin held a meeting in Moscow with Governor of the Magadan Region Sergei Nosov. They discussed the socio-economic development of the region, informed Kremlin. Mr. Putin supported the nomination of the governor for a new term.

Mr. Nosov said at the meeting that the volume of investments in the region increased by 36% and, in particular, investments in the fishing industry, agriculture, tourism and energy increased. This year, it is planned to launch two 10-ton gold recovery plants in the Magadan region, which will increase production in the region by almost 20%, thanks to which the region will “compete for first place in total gold production,” the governor added.

Vladimir Putin said that wages in the Magadan Region are “higher than the national average,” but there are a lot of problems with the housing and communal services system in the region. Sergei Nosov replied that “the authorities have outlined a major modernization” and, in particular, are already changing the heat supply system. Also, according to him, it is planned to build networks, upgrade housing and communal services and build new housing, including rental housing.

The Russian president supported the governor’s plans to run for another term in September, but advised him to “work directly with the people” to get their support. “I think that, despite the fact that a lot has been done and, as you rightly said, even more will need to be done, after all, elections are elections, and I would recommend that you work directly with people and listen to people, what would they say? they expected you, what they would like as a result of your work,” Mr. Putin said.

Almost all of the current regional leaders, whose terms expire in September, have already enlisted the support of Vladimir Putin to be nominated for another term. Usually this happens during a personal meeting: the governors report on their successes and ask for approval of their plans, and the president draws attention to problem areas and admonishes them to the elections. According to Kommersant’s estimates, only the heads of Yakutia and the Oryol region, as well as the communist Valentin Konovalov, who heads Khakassia, have not yet received an audience with the head of state.
