Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with the governor of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Dmitry Artyukhov supported his intention to run for a new term and wished him good luck. This was announced by the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.

“At a report to the president, Artyukhov, in connection with the expiration of his term of office, informed Putin of his intention to stand as a candidate in the upcoming elections. <...> The President supported Artyukhov’s candidacy and wished him success,” he said (cit. according to TASS).

According to Peskov, during the meeting, Artyukhov noted that the region “has achieved a lot, but there are still many ambitious development plans.”

Putin and Artyukhov met today, April 25. During the report, the Governor of Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug told, that in economic terms, 2022 turned out to be “controversial” for the region against the backdrop of the geopolitical situation, but in general, “according to the main indicators, there are pluses everywhere.” At the same time, Artyukhov drew attention to the growth of the resident population, provided at the same time by natural growth.

Artyukhov has been governor of the YaNAO since 2018. Prior to that, from 2011 to 2016, he was assistant to the governor, and since 2016, deputy head of the region for economic development and investment attraction.
