The proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the appointment of Irina Podnosova to the post of Chairman of the Supreme Court (SC) of Russia was received by the Federation Council. Irina Podnosova was born on October 29, 1953 in Pskov. In 1975, she graduated from the Faculty of Law of Leningrad State University, and in 1990 she took the position of judge of the Luga City Court of the Leningrad Region. Later she became the chairman of this court, after which she became the deputy chairman of the Leningrad Regional Court and its head. In 2020, Ms. Podnosova became Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court.
The post of Chairman of the Supreme Council became vacant on February 23, when Vyacheslav Lebedev died. He has held it since 1991. The duties of the chairman of the Supreme Court were assigned to the first deputy, Petr Serkov.
