Putin spoke on the phone with the President of Iran

Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. About it told in the press service of the Kremlin.

“The President of Iran expressed full support for the Russian leadership in connection with the events of June 24,” the statement said.

The leaders of Russia and Iran also discussed cooperation in trade, energy and transport. The presidents touched upon issues of stability in the Transcaucasus and the Syrian settlement, the Kremlin said, adding that the parties agreed to continue personal contacts.

During a telephone conversation, Putin congratulated the people of Iran on the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday.

Earlier on June 26 in the Kremlin told about a telephone conversation between Putin and the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. During the conversation, the Qatari leader also expressed support for the actions of the Russian leadership in connection with the June 24 events.

On June 24, the founder of Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, took control of Rostov-on-Don and military facilities in the city and announced plans to reach Moscow. Before that evening on June 23, he announced a missile attack on one of the rear camps of the military company and blamed the army for this. The Ministry of Defense called these reports false and “information provocation.” In this regard, a criminal case was initiated against Prigozhin for organizing an armed rebellion.

By the evening of June 24, it became known about the negotiations between the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and Prigozhin, after which the founder of the PMC announced his return to military camps. It was also reported that it was decided to close the case against Prigozhin.

During these events, Putin held telephone conversations with the leaders of other states, including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkey. Contacts on the situation in Russia were also announced in the West – the White House in its press release said that US President Joe Biden discussed the attempted rebellion with French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. The British Prime Minister, in turn, had previously stated that “all parties should show responsibility and protect the lives of civilians.”
