The North Atlantic Alliance (NATO), despite promising not to move in 1991, is already standing under Russia’s fence. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this on December 19 at a meeting of the board of the Ministry of Defense.
“In ’91 they said: “Not an inch to the east.” <…> over there, they’re hanging out under our fence. And they stuck out. The Baltic states were taken, all of Eastern Europe was taken. For what?” – Putin said.
He also added that the Russian side, under certain conditions that were spelled out in the Minsk agreements, was ready to gradually restore the territorial integrity of Ukraine, including Donbass.
“On certain conditions: so as not to endanger the people who live there, so that the necessary conditions and guarantees of their safety are created there. This is the meaning of the Minsk agreements,” concluded the head of state.
Vladimir Putin also revealed reasons for the current conflict in Ukraine. According to the Russian President, after the collapse of the USSR, Western countries actively solved the problem of disintegrating Russia. In addition, the West actively took various decisions regarding the states of the post-Soviet space, including Ukraine.
