Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a press conference that negotiations with Chinese President Xi Jinping lasted three hours. During this time, the leaders discussed the bilateral agenda, the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine.
“We talked for three hours with the President of the People’s Republic of China. You can’t tell everything. This is the whole bilateral agenda, there is a lot of it. There are many issues: economics, finance, political interaction, and joint work on international platforms,” the president said.
He added that the situation in the Middle East was touched upon “in some detail.” Putin also informed Xi Jinping about the situation “on the Ukrainian track.” “In order to present everything in detail, it also takes three hours,” concluded the Russian President.
On October 18, negotiations between Putin and Xi Jinping took place in Beijing. Earlier, Peskov reported that the leaders would communicate in a narrow format, and later face to face.
The Russian delegation included Deputy Prime Ministers Alexander Novak and Dmitry Chernyshenko, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, presidential aides Yuri Ushakov and Maxim Oreshkin, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, Central Bank Chairman Elvira Nabiullina etc. Among the business representatives, the Russian delegation included Rosatom General Director Alexey Likhachev, Novatek Chairman of the Board Leonid Mikhelson, as well as Sberbank Chairman of the Board German Gref and head VTB Andrey Kostin and others.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the III International Forum “One Belt – One Road”. Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Beijing for a two-day visit early on the morning of October 17. In addition to participating in the Belt and Road Forum and negotiations with President Xi Jinping, the Russian president has already held six bilateral meetings, including with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
