On Saturday, the Kremlin website posted a message about changes to the legislation regarding the granting of Russian citizenship to foreign citizens who have signed a contract to serve in the Russian Armed Forces.
It is reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the Federal Law “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation.” This decree, in particular, amended the Federal Law “On Citizenship of the Russian Federation”, which provides that foreigners who have entered into a contract for service in the RF Armed Forces or in other troops or military formations for a period of at least 1 year, have the right to apply on admission to the citizenship of the Russian Federation “without observing the conditions established by the Federal Law “On Citizenship of the Russian Federation” and without presenting a residence permit.”
In addition, the law “On military duty and military service” was amended, according to which the term of a contract for military service concluded with a foreigner is reduced from 5 years to 1 year.
It is noted that the law was adopted by the State Duma on September 20, 2022, approved by the Federation Council on September 21.
