Russian leader Vladimir Putin signed a law that introduces administrative and criminal liability for discrediting military personnel who are part of the volunteer units of the Russian Guard. Document published on the official legal information portal.

It follows from the draft that the volunteer units of the department are equated to the formations of the defense department, which entails liability for discrediting the fighters of the Russian Guard along with the military of regular units.

Penalties under administrative articles for discrediting members of the National Guard will amount to up to 50 thousand rubles for citizens and up to 500 thousand for legal entities. According to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the punishment for such an offense will be up to 5 years, and for a repeated offense – up to 15 years in prison.
