Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on the right to extrajudicial blocking of sites with calls for funding the Ukrainian army, should from the data of the legal information portal.
The innovation will allow limiting access to resources that offer fundraising for Russia’s opponents in armed conflict, counter-terrorism operations, as well as possible methods of such financing.
The law also introduces control over the collection of donations on the Internet for religious organizations. Only the organizations themselves or their authorized persons will be able to receive funds.
The law was submitted to the State Duma on September 20 last year. The explanatory note stated that since the beginning of hostilities in Ukraine, “numerous facts have been established of the participation of foreign media platforms and organizations in the dissemination of information with proposals for financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” which poses a threat to the security of Russia.
The State Duma adopted the law on October 18 this year, the Federation Council approved the innovation on October 25.
Law enforcement agencies regularly report the detention of Russian citizens who finance the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In July, the investigative department of the FSB of Russia in the Perm Territory opened a criminal case under the article of treason for providing financial assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine against an employee of one of the Russian commercial banks.
In April, Putin signed a law introducing life imprisonment for treason. The amendments amend Art. 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Previously, the maximum penalty under the article was 20 years in prison with a fine of 500,000 rubles.
