The memory of the victims of German fascism is eroding among the current elites of Germany, but it remains with ordinary German citizens, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with representatives of public patriotic and youth organizations.

“I would like to say, and in Germany they remember this, that the first victims of German fascism, Nazism were just German anti-fascists. And the fact that such a memory is preserved is very good for ordinary citizens. Unfortunately, among today’s elites, apparently, this memory is eroding, ”said the president (cit. according to TASS).

The head of state stressed that a simple citizen of Germany respects both Russia and those heroes who defeated Nazism.

During today’s performance at a gala concert dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad, Putin declaredthat Russia is again threatened by German tanks with crosses on board, but the West does not realize that in the event of a military confrontation with Russia, the use of armored vehicles alone will not end. According to the head of state, those who draw European countries, including Germany, into a military confrontation with Russia, and declare this as a fait accompli, do not understand that “a modern war with Russia will be completely different for them.”

Putin said that “our moral duty”, primarily to the victorious soldiers, is to keep the memory of this feat, pass it on to future generations, “not to allow anyone to belittle, distort the role of the Battle of Stalingrad in the victory over Nazism, in liberation of the whole world from this monstrous evil.
