Russia has no intention of shutting itself off from the world economy and producing everything itself. This was stated by President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with the prime ministers of the EAEU countries, while pointing out the need to be independent in critical areas.

“Of course, we are not going to fence ourselves off from anyone – from the world economy – especially from promising centers for the development of the world economy. This does not mean that we must produce everything at home at any cost. Nothing like this is in our plans. We will strive and, of course, remain a significant part of the global economy as a whole,” said Putin (TASS quote).

But, the head of state noted, one should be independent in critical areas, since “self-sufficiency is the basis of sovereignty.”

Putin in early April emphasizedthat Russia is open to dialogue with all countries and is not going to isolate itself. The head of state expressed hope that other partner countries would also “adhere to the principle of equality and mutual consideration of interests.” The President stressed that it is these approaches that form the basis of the updated concept of Russia’s foreign policy.

In May, Putin, in his address at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum notedthat Russia is in favor of building a mutually beneficial partnership with other countries in the political sphere, in the field of security, in the economy, sports, culture and science.
