Putin said that Russia appreciates the position of African countries on the crisis in Ukraine

Russia appreciates the balanced attitude of African states towards the situation in Ukraine and their interest in a peaceful settlement of the conflict, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at talks with African leaders in St. Petersburg.
“We welcome the balanced approach of African friends in connection with the Ukrainian crisis. Dear friends, we appreciate your interest in finding ways to resolve the conflict,” said Putin (TASS quote).
The Russian president also said that Moscow is in favor of further strengthening friendly relations with African countries and the African Union “on the basis of the principles of equality, mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs.”
How informed the Kremlin press service, representatives of seven African countries arrived in St. Petersburg to negotiate possible ways to resolve the situation around Ukraine. The delegation includes President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia, President of the African Union, President of the Comoros Asumani Azali, President of Senegal Macky Sall, President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, Prime Minister of Egypt Mustafa Madbouli, Minister of State, Director of the Cabinet of the President of the Congo Florent Ntsiba, as well as a special envoy Ruhakan Rugund, President-at-Large of Uganda. The Russian side is represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.
The African delegation arrived in St. Petersburg after a visit to Kyiv. The President of South Africa, following its results, presented the “10 points” of the African “peace plan”. Earlier, Ramaphosa said that he would not accept one of the parties to the conflict in Ukraine and advocated an urgent cessation of hostilities.
