Russia will continue to develop the nuclear triad, as it is the key to the country’s military security and world stability. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with graduates of military universities, transmits Kremlin press office.
“The most important task here is the development of the nuclear triad, which is a key guarantee of Russia’s military security and global stability. <...> Arming the Russian nuclear triad makes it possible to effectively and reliably provide strategic deterrence and maintain a global balance of power,” he said.
Putin also drew attention to the fact that the unconditional priority is the development of the army and ensuring the reliability of Russia. According to him, now almost half of the formations and units of the Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN) are equipped with new Yars missile systems. Putin added that in the near future, the first launchers of the Sarmat complex with a heavy missile will go on combat duty.
The nuclear triad is the strategic armed forces of a state equipped with nuclear weapons, including three components: strategic aviation, intercontinental ballistic missiles, and nuclear submarine missile carriers. The division of the state’s strategic nuclear charges among several branches of the strategic armed forces ensures that the entire combat-ready arsenal of nuclear weapons cannot be destroyed in the event of a surprise attack by the enemy.
At the end of 2022 Putin notedthat the level of modern weapons in the strategic nuclear forces has already exceeded 91%. He also called the nuclear triad “the main guarantee for the preservation of our sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
