Putin: Russia is committed to active work as chairman of the CIS

In the perspective of the upcoming chairmanship in the CIS, Russia is committed to active work to further strengthen the authority of the commonwealth. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS Member States.

“Russia is determined to actively work to further strengthen the authority of the CIS as an integration association and develop comprehensive cooperation within the Commonwealth on the principles of mutual understanding, trust, equality and good neighborliness,” the head of the Russian Federation noted.

According to Putin, the work of the Russian side will be aimed at solving key tasks to improve the well-being and quality of life of CIS citizens.

Priority attention is planned to be given to deepening economic integration, including interaction in the areas of digitalization, energy, industrial and agricultural cooperation, transport and communications, ecology and innovation. It will be of great importance to work with partners to expand cultural and humanitarian ties, cooperation in the field of healthcare, science, education and sports. Also in the plans is the development of contacts between the CIS and friendly states and international organizations.

“We believe it is important to take coordinated steps to preserve the memory of our common past, counteract attempts to falsify history and glorify Nazism,” the president emphasized.

In the military and law enforcement spheres, the Russian chairmanship will focus on strengthening the external borders of the CIS and the implementation of specialized CIS programs, including the Concept of Military Cooperation and the Program for Strengthening Border Security.

The chairmanship of the Commonwealth passes to Russia from January 1, 2024. About 150 events have already been planned, the main one of which will be the next CIS summit on October 8, 2024 in Moscow.

In 2023, the chairmanship of the CIS passed to Kyrgyzstan.
