Putin: Russia has always supported the creation of a Palestinian state

Russia has always supported the implementation of the UN Security Council decision on the creation of an independent Palestinian state. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this at the plenary meeting of the Russian Energy Week.

“We have always advocated the implementation of decisions of the UN Security Council. I mean, first of all, the creation of an independent sovereign Palestinian state,” he said.

Putin said that both in the United States and Israel there are politicians and experts who hold a similar point of view. “But those who have been trying to solve this problem by force for decades are gaining the upper hand,” he added.

The Russian leader noted that in recent years the United States has neglected the mechanisms of the Middle East settlement and tried to solve the problem with “material handouts.” According to him, it is important to resolve socio-economic issues, but it is impossible to overcome the problem “as a whole” without resolving “fundamental political issues,” including the creation of a Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem.

On the morning of October 7, the Palestinian group Hamas began military operations against Israel. The militants attacked the army’s border units and freely entered Israeli populated areas, where they captured an unknown number of hostages, both military and civilian. The Israel Defense Forces responded by launching Operation Iron Swords, and the Israeli government announced that the country had entered a state of war.

According to the latest data, more than 2,000 people have died as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict escalates. In particular, on the Palestinian side, deaths are listed more than 1,000 people, over 5,000 more were injured. On the Israeli side, more than 1,200 people were killed and more than 3,400 people were injured.
