Vladimir Putin commented on a comment by Kirill Vyshinsky, a member of the Russian Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights, who recalled that Russian citizens in Latvia were forced to take a language exam and fill out forms where they were required to declare disloyalty to the Russian Federation. Vyshinsky said that 3,255 Russians who lived in Latvia with a residence permit could be forcibly expelled from Latvia.

Putin said that Russian citizens faced Russophobia in the Baltic countries “long before the Northern Military District,” and “someone decided to use the special military operation in order to solve some of their internal political problems.” In particular, the Russian leader spoke critically of the term “non-citizens”.

The Russian President also warned the Latvian authorities that if they continue to “treat like pigs” those who would like to live in the country, these authorities will soon face a retaliatory attitude.
