Russia and Kyrgyzstan are actively switching to the use of national currencies in mutual trade; the share of the ruble in commercial transactions has reached 83%. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin following negotiations with the President of the Republic Sadyr Japarov in Bishkek.
“Our countries are actively switching to national currencies in trade settlements and building stable channels of credit and banking cooperation. As a result, the share of the ruble in counter commercial transactions reached an impressive 83%,” he said.
The President also noted an increase in mutual trade turnover between Russia and Kyrgyzstan in 2022 by 37% to a record $3.4 billion. In the first half of the year, the figure increased by another 18%.
“I completely agree with the president, my colleague, that we have prospects for further growth,” Putin added.
As previously reported, Putin and Japarov planned to discuss issues of further development of Russian-Kyrgyz relations and alliances in various fields. The Kremlin said that a number of intergovernmental and interdepartmental documents would be signed. Also on October 12, the leaders of the two countries will take part in an event dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Russian military air base in Kant.
On October 13, Putin will take part in a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS, which will be held in a limited and expanded format. The leaders of the CIS countries will sum up the results of their work in 2023, identify new directions and discuss international and regional topics, the Kremlin specified. Following the meeting, a package of documents will be signed.
