Russian President Vladimir Putin during his speech at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) said that the decision not to expand the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) and the Trans-Siberian Railway was wrong.
The head of state noted that the volume of transportation in the eastern direction was underestimated at that time. Nevertheless, Putin believes, the situation is fixable.
“Of course, it was necessary to do it in a timely manner,” he said, speaking about the modernization of the BAM and the Trans-Siberian Railway.
According to the president, at some point the point of view prevailed that there was no need for this due to the lack of the necessary volume of transportation, primarily coal, to the east.
“Now we see that this position turned out to be erroneous. But there is nothing catastrophic here,” Putin said.
