Russia will not supply gas, oil, coal and other energy resources if this does not meet the interests of the country’s economy and turns out to be unprofitable for it, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this during a plenary session at the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF).
“Those who impose something on us are in the wrong position today to dictate their will to us. Let them dress up. <...> We will not supply anything outside the scope of the contract, we will not do anything imposed. We will only have one thing to say, as in a well-known Russian fairy tale: “Freeze, freeze, wolf tail,” Putin said.
The head of state stressed that the matter concerns deliveries outside of contracts, and confirmed Russia’s readiness to fully fulfill its contractual obligations. During his speech, he also called the idea of limiting the price of Russian energy resources by administrative means “absolutely stupid decision”, from which those who try to implement it will suffer.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak said that the idea of setting a price ceiling for Russian oil, oil products and gas, which is being discussed by the finance ministers of the G7 countries and which was voiced by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen last week, will lead to an increase in energy prices within Europe.
Earlier, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that if this plan to limit prices is approved, Russia will redirect energy supplies to other countries that will work on market conditions.
