Russian President Vladimir Putin presented Sergei Surovikin, Commander of the Group of Forces in the Special Military Operation Zone, with the Order of St. George of the Third Class. About it on Saturday informs TASS.
Putin awarded Surovikin at the headquarters of the Southern Military District (SMD) in Rostov-on-Don, who, as previously informed Press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov, the head of state visited today.
“President Putin visited the headquarters of the Southern Military District this morning. He talked to the commanders and handed over the battle flags to the new military formations,” Peskov said, adding that the banners were received by the 1st Donetsk, 2nd Guards Lugansk-Severodonetsk Army Corps and the Donetsk Higher Combined Arms Command School.
According to the agency, the Order of St. George of the third degree was awarded to Surovikin for courage, bravery and dedication shown in the performance of military duty.
“The President presented combat banners to new military formations and state awards to servicemen who showed courage and heroism in carrying out combat missions during a special military operation,” reported also in the Kremlin.
In August, Putin awarded the Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces (VKS) of the Russian Federation, Sergei Surovikin, the rank of Army General. In October, by decision of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, he was appointed commander of a joint group of troops in the area of a special military operation.
