Putin praised Kusturica’s plans to film a “Russian triptych”

Serbian director Emir Kusturica told Russian leader Vladimir Putin that he plans to make a “Russian triptych” of three films based on the works of Russian classics: Dostoevsky, Gogol and Leo Tolstoy.

Russian President Vladimir Putin received Kusturica on Tuesday, April 2. The director said that he had a plan “to make such a triptych, a Russian triptych, three films in the new world,” and also to complete “Laurel” based on the novel by Evgeniy Vodolazkin.

After the implementation of these plans, Kusturica, according to him, is going to retire creatively.

Commenting on the creative plans of the Serbian director, Vladimir Putin called them very interesting and invited them to discuss them.

Back in the fall of 2023, Kusturica, talking about plans to film Dostoevsky’s novel “Crime and Punishment,” clarified that the film would be partially filmed in Moscow and partially in Kuban. At the same time, the director said that I would like to visit new Russian regionswhose entry into the Russian Federation the West refuses to recognize.

Emir Kusturica has repeatedly emphasized my love for Russian literature and said that since childhood he had read the works of such great writers as Dostoevsky, Pushkin, Gogol and Bunin. The director explained that his mother always encouraged him to read books by Russian authors – even those whose works are banned in the West.
