At a meeting with the Director General of the IAEA in St. Petersburg, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow has always been aware of the need to limit the spread of military nuclear technology.
The head of state recalled that the country occupies a leading position in the world in the field of nuclear development in many respects.
“We were the first to create a fast neutron reactor, we are developing shipbuilding – floating nuclear power plants have appeared in Russia,” Putin said.
The Russian leader acknowledged that there is now an unnecessarily dangerous politicization of nuclear activities. Putin told Grossi that he was counting on his help to tone down such rhetoric.
The Russian President expressed hope that the nuclear sphere of activity and cooperation could be returned to normal, despite the complex processes taking place on the world stage.
At the beginning of the meeting with Grossi, Putin suggested to the IAEA Director General discuss the situation around the Zaporozhye NPP.
