Russian President Vladimir Putin opposed the idea of sharply increasing import duties on fish and fish products. The head of state voiced his position at a meeting with businessmen from the Khabarovsk Territory at the Pacific State University.
“I’ll definitely take a look and make a note for myself. I’ll ask my colleagues to flag this. Simply sharply increasing the import duty is dangerous, because the price may jump on the domestic market,” the president said.
The head of state noted that he would instruct the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Economic Development to calculate and develop measures to increase import duties. “We will definitely work through everything,” the president said.
In December, the Fisheries Union proposed zeroing out or reducing import duties on some types of fish. According to the chairman of the union, Alexander Panin, this measure would reduce prices for consumer products. According to the chairman of the union, in January-November, fish imports amounted to about 547 thousand tons, which is 10% more than a year earlier.
The day before, January 10, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Chukotka. There, the head of state spoke with residents of the region and the head of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, Vladislav Kuznetsov.
