Putin met with the Governor of the Sakhalin Region

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Governor of the Sakhalin Region Valery Limarenko via video link. About it reported in the press service of the Kremlin.

“The head of the region reported to the head of state on the development of the subject of the Federation, including in the field of healthcare, construction, industry and transport,” the report said.

Earlier, Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov called this conversation thorough and pointed to the importance of the Sakhalin Region.

During this conversation, Limarenko reported on the state of the region’s four main problems – emergency housing, lack of gas supply, low transport accessibility and problems with medicine. In particular, Limarenko recalled that Sakhalin is one of the gas capitals of Russia. According to him, the level of gasification in the region has increased from 20% to 55% over the past three years. It is assumed that by 2025 this figure will increase to 100%.

Putin drew attention to the problem with a high level of cancer in the region. “This is a high level, higher than the national average by more than 30 percent, so we need to think about how to close this problem, solve it,” the head of state said.

Putin pointed to the great potential for development in Sakhalin and thanked Limarenko for his work. “She [ситуация в регионе] is developing in a positive way, although, of course, there are enough problems, as elsewhere, but on the whole, the pace has been good. I want to thank you for this and express the hope that everything will continue to develop in the same vein,” the President concluded.

Earlier, February 6, Peskov informedthat Putin will continue to meet with the leaders of the regions. “Indeed, the president will continue his practice of regular meetings with the heads of regions. Surely, among them there will be those whose term of office is expiring,” he said. Limarenko’s term of office expires in 2024.
