A decree on retaliatory measures to the decision to introduce a ceiling on Russian oil prices will be signed early next week, on December 26 or 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a press conference.
“You know, the decree, I think I will sign somewhere on Monday or Tuesday. These are precautionary measures,” the Russian president said (quote according to RIA Novosti).
At a press conference Putin declaredthat Russia has nothing to lose from the imposed ceiling on oil prices. According to him, with this decision, the “geopolitical opponents and opponents” of the country are trying to limit the revenues of the Russian budget. “There are no losses for the Russian fuel and energy complex, and for the economy and the budget,” Putin assured.
The head of state has repeatedly spoken about the absence of losses from Russia against the backdrop of the established marginal price for oil. About this he said December 9 at a press conference following the visit to Kyrgyzstan. On the same day, Putin announced that a decree on retaliatory measures should be issued in the near future. The President also added that the level of the price ceiling corresponds to the prices at which Russia sells oil today. “In this sense, this decision does not affect us,” he said.
On December 3, the EU countries agreed on a price ceiling for Russian oil of $60 per barrel. The document was published in the Official Journal of the EU on 4 December. The restriction came into force on December 5, along with a ban on the supply of Russian oil by sea to the EU countries. In addition to the EU countries, the G7 countries and Australia also joined the ceiling.
In the Kremlin declaredthat Moscow will not accept the introduction of a price ceiling for Russian oil. According to Peskov, “preparations have already been made” for this decision. Prior to this, Putin has repeatedly stressed that Russia will not supply energy to countries that join the price ceiling.
