Putin extended restrictions on Gazprom purchasing gas from Wintershall and OMV

The restriction on the purchase of gas and services from joint ventures (JVs) with OMV and Wintershall Dea for Gazprom and its affiliates will remain in effect for another year. The ban on the purchase of energy raw materials and services from joint ventures at prices above the maximum cost announced by the government will last until October 1, 2024. For another year “Gazprom» will also not be able to fulfill obligations to pay for gas to persons from the United States and unfriendly countries that have joined them. We are talking about cases when prices exceed the Cabinet limit.
The German company Wintershall Dea and the Austrian OMV are participating in the development of deposits at the Urengoy and Yuzhno-Russkoye fields together with Gazprom. Production is carried out through the joint ventures Achimgaz, Achim Development and Severneftegazprom. Wintershall Dea owns 50% of Achimgaz, 25.01% of Achim Development and 34.9% of Severneftegazprom, while OMV owns a 24.99% stake in Severneftegazprom.
Putin entered special economic measures for the purchase of gas from German and Austrian partners for Gazprom on December 22, 2022 in response to the actions of unfriendly countries. The measures were activated retroactively – from March 1, 2022.
