Putin expressed condolences on the death of Gorbachev

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent telegram condolences to the families of the first President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev.
“Mikhail Gorbachev was a politician and statesman who had a huge impact on the course of world history. He led our country during a period of complex, dramatic changes, large-scale foreign policy, economic and social challenges. I deeply understood that reforms were necessary, and strove to offer my own solutions to urgent problems,” the telegram says.
Vladimir Putin also noted the “great humanitarian, charitable, educational activities” that Mr. Gorbachev was engaged in after leaving politics.
Mikhail Gorbachev died August 30 at the age of 92. Russian and foreign politicians recall the role of the only president of the USSR in world history and his influence on international relations. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson declaredthat he always admired the courage and honesty of Mr. Gorbachev, “which he showed in bringing the Cold War to a peaceful conclusion.” Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida noted the great role of the last Secretary General of the USSR in the nuclear disarmament movement.
