Putin explained why Aurus is expensive

Aurus cars are produced in small quantities, so they are expensive. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin during his speech at the plenary session WEF.

“[Aurus стоит дорого]because it is rarely produced, it will go into production for real – and everything will be twice as cheap,” he said.

Putin acknowledged that the process takes time. “But there will be our own development,” he added. The President emphasized that officials should drive domestic cars. He called for following the example of India, where they “emphasize the production and use of vehicles” produced in the country.

In early August, Putin offered Russian officials to switch from foreign cars to domestically produced cars. At the same time, Russia does not need to refuse imports, but “some basic things” should be focused on domestic producers, he noted. Putin himself uses Aurus.

In July, State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin offeredso that all budgetary institutions and authorities must purchase domestic cars. Volodin called on deputies to support the position of the Ministry of Finance, whose employees, by decision of Minister Anton Siluanov, will switch to Russian cars with a deep level of localization. The speaker emphasized that the State Duma will also make such a decision.

Siluanov during SPIEF tested the domestic car Lada Aura. After that, he noted that the new AvtoVAZ model could replace the foreign brands that officials drive. At the same time, he noted that ministry employees are ready to change their official cars to Lada Aura.
